There's a Witch in our Fireplace !

You've probably all seen the witch legs in the fireplace that originally came from BH&G. I featured it in my Halloween Pinterest Picks post and I knew that I was going to copy it for our house.

What do you think? I LOVE it and think that it is adorable, plus it was incredibly easy to make!

Check out the little witchy frog that she brought along with her when she was trying to sneak into our house!

The boots came from our local thrift shop (for $3) and started out like this ~

It's hard to tell from the picture but they were a dark bronze/brown color.  Leigh cut the shafts off, leaving jagged edges and we spray painted them black.

Here is a complete list of the items you need to put together your own Fireplace Witch Legs -

1.  Boots or shoes (paint if needed)
2.  $ Store Pool Noodle -cut in half
3.  Striped Panty Hose (ours came from Wal-mart in the Halloween section) Cut the legs off the panty part.
4.  Wire
5.  Skirt - black and orange tulle or a strip of fabric, and 2 lengths of ribbon
6.  Hot glue gun

The first step is to determine how long you will need to make your pool noodles.  I was lucky that in the front of our flue, where the screen is, there are ventilation holes that I was able to use to hang the legs from.

Just a word of advice - leave the pool noodles too long and take off some to make them fit later.  I actually cut one too short and taped it back together with packing tape - so don't worry - you can make it work.

Then cut a piece of strong wire (I don't know what gauge this is since we've had this roll forever!) about 2 1/2 times as long as your pool noodle. Fold wire in half and insert down into the hole in the pool noodle leaving about 3 or 4 inches coming out of each end.

Cut the loop in half and press each end down against the side of the pool noodle.

Cut another small piece of wire and twist it over the two pieces you had inserted in the middle of the noodle.

Then twist each end up.  This is the end that you will insert down into the boot.  Thread one leg of the hose over this end and then twist tie the stocking around the wire coming out of the top of the leg.

I was lucky because the once the Leg was dressed it fit snugly into the boot, plus the wire gave me the ability to actually bend the pool noodle slightly to insure an even better fit.

To make the skirt you will need 6" wide orange and black tulle and 2 lengths of ribbon.  The ribbon won't show, so it doesn't really matter what color you use.  I started with the orange tulle and gathered it by hand and glued it on to the ribbon at the same time.  Then I did the same with the black, letting it hang down a little longer and glue another ribbon on top of the black tulle.  I used straight pins to attach it to the pool noodles after I had them hung in the right position.

That's all there is to it!

Halloween
Of all our Halloween decorations that we have made, this is by far my favorite!  Oh, yes and I have to give credit for the skirt to my BFF Marty! I was trying to come up with some way to dress up the boots - using ribbon or something, and she asked if I had any purple satin? She said that the witch needed a skirt! I didn't have satin, but did have the orange and black tulle that worked perfectly.

The skirt was just the finishing touch that she needed ~~ Thanks to Marty!

Happy Halloween!

    1. Michelle - I used wire and inserted the wire into ventilation holes in the front where our built in screen is. I originally thought that I might have to open the flue and thread the wire over that. Thanks so much for the kind words! I just love Halloween - don't you?

So if you want to judge a person it must be from within him whether he is good or evil, because it may seem outward he is good but so know the contents of his heart turned out he was so very evil. Then if you want to judge a person should know more deeply.
