Craftgawker - Failure/Success/Failure

Ok, have any of you guys submitted to Craftgawker?  I submitted something when we first started blogging and it was REJECTED ! Boy was I bummed!

It (I) was rejected (they use Declined which is a politically correct word for REJECTED!) due to "Low lighting/and or underexposed".  So my feelings were hurt and I decided that they were just going to miss out on all of my future Fabulousness!  So there! I'll show you!

Then 100 blog posts later, I read an article about how to drive traffic to your blog and one of those ways was to post on Craftgawker.  So I thought, what the heck, I would give it another try.  So on Sunday, I submitted our Retro Kitchen Word Art post and would you believe they ACCEPTED it?  They Liked us, they really did! I could just feel the LOVE! Applause from the crowd!!!

Oh, happy day! I thought, Ok, we should do this again! So I promptly submitted our July 4th Bunting and eagerly awaited it's acceptance.

But alas, we were REJECTED again!!!!  This time due to "Composition too tight".  Really? What the heck?

So, I really need your help. Have you submitted to Craftgawker?  Successfully? If so, do you have any tips? I think that it is worth it since we got a lot of hits from it, but is it really worth all the heartache?

I need your advice - what do you think? Craftgawker yes or Craftgawker no?

Bumbling our way through Blogland......

  2. Yes, it is worth it!
If your first picture does not get picked, try another picture (they do not mind)
But only do one at a time, waiting to hear back from them, before submitting for the same post. I once re-submitted THREE times for the same post before it was accepted!
Due to craftgawker's size requirements, some pictures do not look as good when they shrink down, so sometimes I shrink them myself and alter them and that helps.
Also, it stings a bit, but just do not take it personally and keep trying!!

    1. Well that is good news! I'm going to keep trying and resubmitted it with a different picture, but I'm not sure it is high enough quality. Do you know if they have any rules about Holiday crafts? Can they only be submitted during that "Season"?

Thanks for dropping in to see us tonight!

    1. Craftgawker is a cool site with lots of unusual crafts. Unlike Pinterest, you won't see 100 versions of the same craft on it. I take all my pictures now with my Iphone and I guess I might have to go back to my camera.

      Thanks for stopping in today!

  5. I'm sorry to say that I can't offer any advice, as I'm a novice, too. Yesterday I took part in my first "blog hop" and I'm still not sure what that is! Perhaps I shouldn't tell people how green I actually am. :)

The blogosphere can be an overwhelming place, no? Although my initial intention was not to blog to the masses, it's really nice when people read and relate to your posts. I'd be lying if I said those unread posts that I poured so much time into didn't make me a little sad.

There is a great blogger called lamiki who gives a lot of great tips about how to promote your blog. Here's one of her posts:

If you do find any great tips, I'd love to hear them!

    Happy Blogging,

    1. Blog Hops or Linky Parties are a lot of fun and can drive traffic to your blog. We've only been blogging since the end of February and you are right - it can be overwhelming. Keep on Linking up to parties and you will drive more traffic to your blog. Also, pin to Pinterest. I started a Crafty In Crosby board that does pretty well.

Thanks for the link to Lamiki.com. I pinned one of her articles. I have some great blog tips and links on my Pinterest Blog Tips Board too -

I'm a Pinterest fanatic and in fact, I was inspired by Pinterest to start the blog. I have more followers on Pinterest than I do on the blog!!!

Good luck and so nice to meet you!

  8. I had never heard of Craftgawker until now. I'd say a camera is a better choice when submitting pictures. Just my thought and 2 cents for what it's worth. LOL. Good Luck

  9. I have tried 4 times and been REJECTED every single time. I have a great camera, I think my photos look ok and so am starting to feel like I'm never going to be able to join the special craftgawker club!

    1. Keep trying Laura, I think that is the key. We have probably submitted at least 10 times and have only had 3 accepted. I submitted one of ours several times (with different photos) before it was accepted, so I think the secret is to just keep trying. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
